About Tropicale

Tropicale is a cocktail bar with Caribbean and Latin American small plates in the Kerns neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Founded in 2020 by Alfredo Climaco, the bar continues today under the care of his sister, Viviana Reyes, and Cassandra Nicky Martinez, who carry forward the spirit and flavors Alfredo built Tropicale on.

Known for his cocktails and zero proof drinks served at the Portland Night Market and other city street fairs, Alfredo Climaco found a permanent home for his craft with Tropicale, his first brick-and-mortar bar. A native of Puebla, Mexico, Climaco started in the service industry at a young age, working food stands as a teenager, and then bartending at 17. When he moved to Portland, Oregon from Mexico in 2010, he continued his work in restaurants while taking English and business classes at a local community college. Climaco received grants to continue his education and start a small business, working closely with organizations that foster BIPOC entrepreneurs, namely Portland Mercado, Livelihood NW, and Prosper Portland.
